Women's soccer opens with pair of wins With opening season wins over Notre Dame de Namur University and Academy of Art University, the women's soccer team showed glimpses of becoming a scoring machine and a team searching for its perfect fit.
The Wildcats maintained a dominating presence on the field over the weekend, outscoring their opponents 7-0 and tremendously outshooting them 40 to four. | Senior co-captain proves leadership through assists Entering her fourth and final season on the volleyball team, Erica Brick is not into breaking records or keeping track of her own stats. But standing a small 5 feet 6 inches, Brick is at the top of one of the team's most important records: assists. The co-captain is the only player in the university's history to have three consecutive 1,000-assist seasons, bringing her career total to a record 3,404 assists. | Connor Ramey: It's all in the name OK. It's official. I feel proud to say my new last name is Cuatro Nueve. With Cincinnati Bengal Chad Johnson - or now Chad Javon Ocho Cinco - as inspiration, I have decided to change my name. His new name represents his playing number of 85, mine is my adolescent lucky number of 49. | Men's soccer finish preseason with win The men's soccer team stayed perfect at home beating Holy Names University 3-0 in their final preseason game Friday night. Things started slow for the Wildcats in the first half. They couldn't muster much of an organized downfield attack, though the midfield struggle over possession was hard-fought throughout the night. | Outlaws finish strong in season finale Few things in life are less predictable than independent league baseball. The players, many of whom have played for Major League Baseball organizations, are giving a career in baseball one last shot - especially in small cities such as Chico. With this commitment to the game, and without MLB running the show, anything can happen. | Post-summer workouts could cause more harm than good The beginning of the fall semester brings health and fitness resolutions much like those of New Year's. Students return from vacation and once again fill the gyms and tracks in efforts to lose those summer pounds that stacked on like stones - Keystone Lights, to be literal. | Volleyball's first tournament captures four wins, record In the volleyball team's opening weekend, co-captain Erica Brick assisted in four straight wins in the Seawolf Spike Tournament at Sonoma State. The senior was named MVP of the tournament as she averaged 32.55 assists per game, sending her into the record books as Chico State's all-time assist leader. |
